KATHMANDU: Mamta Sharma, the founding chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in Madhesh Province is set to join the Nepali Congress after resigning from the party.
According to sources, Sharma will formally enter the Nepali Congress during the party’s manifesto unveiling program scheduled to be held in Janakpur on Wednesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, Sharma resigned from RSP, including from her general membership, stating that the party’s working style contradicted its founding slogans such as “Youth must enter politics” and “Choose the competent.”
In her resignation statement, she alleged that the contributions of dedicated party members in Madhesh had not been properly recognized and that party activities were being carried out in violation of its statute and established procedures. She also claimed that the party’s principles were not being implemented in practice.
Sharma further accused the party leadership of making decisions influenced by financial irregularities, saying she could no longer remain silent as a witness to such activities.
Her move is seen as a significant political shift in Madhesh ahead of the upcoming elections.
