Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier: Nepal loses to Thailand



KATHMANDU: Nepal suffered an eight-wicket defeat against Thailand in their opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, which began in Kathmandu on Sunday.

The match was played at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. Chasing a target of 123 runs, Thailand reached the total in 16.5 overs, losing just two wickets. The winning runs came off a boundary when two runs were required.

Nattakan Chantham led Thailand’s chase with an unbeaten 57 runs. She was well supported by Nanpat Koncharoenkaew, who scored 32 runs, and Ofisara Suwanchonrathi, who contributed 28 runs. For Nepal, Sita Rana Magar claimed both wickets.

Earlier, Nepal were bowled out for 122 runs in 20 overs after opting to bat first upon losing the toss. Bindu Rawal was Nepal’s top scorer with 44 runs. Samjhauna Khadka struck a quick 26 off 11 balls, while captain Rubina Chhetri added 17 runs off 10 balls, including two sixes and a four.

Thailand’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, with Thipatcha Putthawong taking four wickets for 15 runs in her four overs. Onicha Kamchomphu claimed two wickets, while Sunida Chaturongrattanapisit, Suliporn Laomi, and Chanida Sutthiruang took one wicket each.

Nepal will face the Netherlands in their second match of the tournament on Thursday.
