KATHMANDU: National Assembly (NA) Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal has called on Nepalis to strengthen national unity, social harmony and mutual respect, saying the spirit of Bada Dashain should inspire collective efforts to build a prosperous, inclusive and harmonious Nepal.
In a message issued on Saturday on the occasion of Bada Dashain 2083, Dahal extended his best wishes for happiness, peace, prosperity, good health and continued progress to all Nepalis at home and abroad. He expressed confidence that the festival would further reinforce mutual understanding, unity, cooperation and brotherhood among the people.
Describing Dashain as a festival of profound religious, cultural and social significance, Dahal said it symbolizes the triumph of truth over falsehood and justice over injustice. He noted that the tradition of receiving tika, jamara and blessings from elders and relatives, along with family reunions, adds to the festival’s significance.
“The religious rituals from Ghatasthapana to Bijaya Dashami, the tradition of receiving tika, jamara and blessings from relatives, and family reunions have brought alive our cultural heritage, intimacy and traditions passed down from generation to generation,” Dahal said in his message.
Highlighting Nepal’s multi-ethnic, multilingual, multi-religious and multicultural character, he said the Constitution guarantees religious and cultural freedom and emphasizes the protection and promotion of the languages, cultures, traditions and heritage of all communities.
Dahal stressed that it was the shared responsibility of all citizens to preserve national unity amid diversity by upholding mutual respect, tolerance and goodwill towards the festivals, beliefs and traditions of all religions and communities.
