KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has said Dashain strengthens family bonds, social harmony and national unity while preserving Nepal’s rich cultural heritage amid its geographical, cultural and linguistic diversity.
In a message issued on the occasion of Dashain 2083, the President extended his best wishes for happiness, peace, prosperity, good health and continued progress to all Nepalis at home and abroad.
Paudel noted that although Nepal’s multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multicultural society encompasses diverse traditions and customs, Dashain has played a significant role in promoting forgiveness, goodwill, mutual respect and brotherhood.
Recalling the religious and historical accounts of Goddess Durga’s victory over demonic forces and Lord Ram’s triumph over Ravana on Vijaya Dashami, he said the festival symbolizes the victory of justice over injustice and truth over falsehood.
Describing Dashain as an important occasion for family gatherings and reunions, the President highlighted its significance in Nepal’s family, social, religious, cultural and national life.
Paudel also expressed grief over the loss of lives and property caused by devastating floods in various parts of the country. He paid tribute to those who lost their lives, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
He further appealed to all concerned parties to work together in a spirit of unity and cooperation to support the rehabilitation and recovery of flood-affected communities.
