Leaders urge Gagan to hold final talks with former president Deuba
Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has shown flexibility in efforts to bring former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba back into the party’s organisational process. Addressing the Central Working Committee meeting on Thursday, Thapa said he would continue to wait for Deuba until the final day. Congress Vice President Pushpa Bhusal, briefing the media on Thapa’s remarks at the meeting, said the party president had expressed his willingness to wait until October 2 for Deuba to join. “We want Deuba dai to come and inaugurate the general convention on the 16th. Without him, this general convention will not reflect unity. Therefore, the president has said that we will wait for him until the 16th. Let us all make efforts to bring Deuba dai here. Other leaders should also make efforts,” Bhusal told Khabarhub.
Survey officer arrested with Rs 900,000 bribe
The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested Dil Bahadur Wali, chief of Team No. 3 (Machhapokhari) at the Kathmandu Survey Office, Dillibazar, with Rs 900,000 in bribe money. The CIAA had deployed a team from its Tangal office following a complaint that Wali had been demanding a bribe by causing unnecessary delays, difficulties and harassment while processing a file related to a recommendation for registering land that had been left out of the registration process and forwarding it to the Land Administration Office in Manmaiju, Kathmandu. The CIAA team arrested Wali on Wednesday from a restaurant at Basundhara Chowk in Tokha Municipality-5, Kathmandu, with the Rs 900,000 he had allegedly received as a bribe.
Gagan urges Deuba to join general convention, says separate convention is unnecessary
Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has urged former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba to participate in the party’s upcoming 15th General Convention. Addressing the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee meeting on Thursday, Thapa said there was no need to hold a separate general convention as unity had already been achieved within the party. He said he was ready to make the necessary compromises and show flexibility to further strengthen unity within the party. “I urge my supreme leader Sher Bahadur dai not to hold a separate general convention. I am ready to make any further sacrifices required from my side. As the party leader, I am also ready to show flexibility on any issues that need to be accommodated so that everyone can move forward together,” Thapa said.
Army chief Sigdel meets Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun in Beijing
Chief of the Nepali Army, General Ashok Raj Sigdel, held a meeting with Chinese Defence Minister Admiral Dong Jun in Beijing on Thursday during his visit to China. According to the Nepali Army, the two sides discussed various matters of mutual interest and issues related to Nepal-China military relations. During his China visit, General Sigdel also inspected China’s National Defense University (NDU), where he was briefed on the university’s activities and academic programmes.
Lawmakers urge government not to deprive families of missing flood victims of legal rights
Lawmakers have urged the government to intensify the search for people missing in the Bhotekoshi and Rasuwa floods and facilitate DNA testing to identify recovered bodies. They also called for arrangements to ensure that families of people whose bodies have not been recovered can access legal rights related to death registration, insurance, compensation, banking and property division. Speaking during the special hour of Thursday’s House of Representatives meeting, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Thakur Singh Tharu said many families of the Rasuwa flood victims had performed final rites using symbolic bodies made of kush grass according to tradition, but such rites had not received legal recognition.
Govt awaiting PSC inputs on draft federal civil service bill
The government is awaiting inputs from the Public Service Commission (PSC) on a draft bill relating to the civil service before giving it a final shape. The bill is being introduced to revamp the federal civil service, including its structure, operation, terms and conditions, career development, transfers and promotions. It is expected to make the civil administration more systematic, accountable and competent. The draft bill was sent to the PSC after receiving suggestions from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. It was forwarded to the constitutional body in line with legal provisions. Once the PSC submits its recommendations, the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration will present the draft to the Council of Ministers along with its recommendations.
LPG prices return to Rs 2,060 following road reopening
The price of cooking LPG in Kathmandu has fallen following the reopening of the road in the Krishnabhir section. LPG traders had earlier increased prices after floods disrupted the main route and forced gas suppliers to use longer alternative routes, resulting in higher transportation costs. Shiva Prasad Ghimire, former president of the Nepal LP Gas Industry Association, said the price has been reduced after Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) issued a Product Delivery Order (PDO) for Kathmandu. “Gas prices had previously risen because transportation costs increased when the main road was closed and supplies had to be brought through an alternative route,” Ghimire said. “With the Krishnabhir road now reopened and gas tankers once again using the regular route, prices have come down.”
Several NC leaders leave Deuba camp, join Gagan Thapa’s side
Political polarization has intensified within the Nepali Congress (NC) as the party prepares for its 15th General Convention, scheduled to begin on October 2. While senior leaders Dr. Shekhar Koirala and former acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka have yet to openly align themselves with either side, several other leaders have begun shifting camps from Chundevi, associated with former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, to Sanepa, where party president Gagan Thapa and his supporters are based. According to sources close to Nepali Congress leaders Kedar Karki and Gagan Thapa, both have reached a position of remaining neutral and are unlikely to participate in either faction’s activities during the general convention.
Bhotekoshi flood: Death toll rises to 1,409
A total of 1,409 bodies have been recovered so far following the devastating Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa on August 26, according to authorities. Of the total, 1,407 bodies were recovered from various districts: 199 in Rasuwa, 202 in Nuwakot, 72 in Dhading, 364 in Chitwan, 78 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 232 in Nawalparasi East, and 222 in Nawalparasi West. Two additional people died while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu. Authorities have collected DNA samples to help identify the recovered bodies. So far, 1,237 bodies have been safely managed and preserved.
Singaporean climber dies on Mount Manaslu
A Singaporean national who had arrived in Nepal to climb Mount Manaslu has died. The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Lau Wee Seng of Singapore. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Shrestha of the District Police Office, Seng died while descending from Camp 2 toward the base camp of Mount Manaslu in Samagaun, Chumanubri Rural Municipality-1, in northern Gorkha. Seng had arrived in Samagaun on September 7 to climb Mount Manaslu, police said.
CIAA submits annual report to President Paudel
The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has submitted its annual report for fiscal year 2082/83 to President Ramchandra Paudel. According to the President’s Secretariat, CIAA Chief Commissioner Prem Kumar Rai presented the report to President Paudel at a programme held at Shital Niwas today.
Foreign Minister Khanal announces PM-led UNGA delegation
Nepal will be represented at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) by a delegation led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal said, with the team scheduled to travel to the United States next week. Speaking at a meeting of the International Relations and Tourism Committee at Singha Durbar on Thursday, Khanal said that he would accompany the Prime Minister-led delegation to the General Assembly. He said the United Nations General Assembly is scheduled to begin next week and that Nepal will be represented at the global forum under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
Govt spends Rs 200 billion in first two months of current FY
The government has spent around Rs 200 billion in the first two months of the current fiscal year 2026/27. According to the Financial Comptroller General Office, total government expenditure reached Rs 199.83 billion as of September 16, accounting for 9.41 percent of the annual budget allocation. Of the total allocation for recurrent expenditure, 9 percent has been spent so far. The government has allocated Rs 1.270 trillion for recurrent expenditure for the current fiscal year.
Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle leaves for India
Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has left for India on a three-day visit at the invitation of the Indian government. Wagle left Kathmandu for New Delhi this morning. According to his secretariat, the main objective of the visit is to strengthen cooperation between Nepal and India on various economic, political and diplomatic issues, including post-disaster reconstruction. Wagle is scheduled to meet his Indian counterpart, Nirmala Sitharaman, at 5:00 p.m. today. On Friday morning, he will participate as the chief guest in a high-level diplomatic dialogue organized by former Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran. He is also scheduled to meet Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
