KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has urged former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba to participate in the party’s upcoming 15th General Convention.
Addressing the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee meeting on Thursday, Thapa said there was no need to hold a separate general convention as unity had already been achieved within the party.
He said he was ready to make the necessary compromises and show flexibility to further strengthen unity within the party.
“I urge my supreme leader Sher Bahadur dai not to hold a separate general convention. I am ready to make any further sacrifices required from my side. As the party leader, I am also ready to show flexibility on any issues that need to be accommodated so that everyone can move forward together,” Thapa said.
Thapa also urged party members not to be confused by claims that grassroots cadres would not participate in the convention.
“I have heard in many places that friends at the ward level should not participate in the convention on the 3rd. Please do not remain confused about this,” he said.
Thapa said unity among leaders alone would not be sufficient and called on leaders and cadres at all levels of the party to unite and participate in the convention.
“Leaders being united alone is not enough; grassroots cadres must also come together. Therefore, whatever the reasons and whoever may have been hurt or dissatisfied, please come together in one place,” Thapa said.
