KATHMANDU: The price of cooking LPG in Kathmandu has fallen following the reopening of the road in the Krishnabhir section. LPG traders had earlier increased prices after floods disrupted the main route and forced gas suppliers to use longer alternative routes, resulting in higher transportation costs.
Shiva Prasad Ghimire, former president of the Nepal LP Gas Industry Association, said the price has been reduced after Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) issued a Product Delivery Order (PDO) for Kathmandu.
“Gas prices had previously risen because transportation costs increased when the main road was closed and supplies had to be brought through an alternative route,” Ghimire said. “With the Krishnabhir road now reopened and gas tankers once again using the regular route, prices have come down.”
Transportation costs had earlier been increased by Rs 105.38 per cylinder to account for the additional expenses incurred on the longer route. With the main road restored, consumers will now pay the regular price of Rs 2,060 per cylinder.
NOC spokesperson Manoj Kumar Thakur confirmed that a PDO has been issued for the Kathmandu Valley. Although LPG distribution is generally divided into three regions, supplies to Kathmandu had been managed under the PDO designated for the Terai region during the disruption.
New PDOs have now been issued separately for Kathmandu and Dhading to restore normal supply arrangements and ensure LPG is sold at the standard price.
