KATHMANDU: A total of 1,409 bodies have been recovered so far following the devastating Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa on August 26, according to authorities.
Of the total, 1,407 bodies were recovered from various districts: 199 in Rasuwa, 202 in Nuwakot, 72 in Dhading, 364 in Chitwan, 78 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 232 in Nawalparasi East, and 222 in Nawalparasi West. Two additional people died while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.
Authorities have collected DNA samples to help identify the recovered bodies. So far, 1,237 bodies have been safely managed and preserved.
A total of 3,230 DNA samples have been collected for identification, including samples from 1,286 deceased individuals and 1,944 relatives. Details of 1,361 unidentified bodies have also been uploaded to the Nepal Police website.
Meanwhile, 7,975 police personnel have been mobilized in the flood-affected areas for rescue and search operations, relief distribution, and the management of recovered bodies. The search for 4,089 missing people is still underway. Similarly, 203 people have been placed in holding centers in various districts.
