KATHMANDU: Floods and landslides have continued to disrupt road connectivity in several parts of Nepal, leaving a number of major highways either completely blocked or operating with restrictions.
According to Nepal Police, transportation has been affected in Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces, with authorities imposing closures and traffic restrictions on several road sections because of adverse conditions.
In Bagmati Province, flooding has completely blocked the main highway in Rasuwa, and the road will remain closed until further notice. In Nuwakot, authorities have imposed a nightly traffic restriction on the Tokha–Chhahare road section in Shivapuri Rural Municipality-6. The road remains closed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. because of the risk of floods and landslides.
The Pasang Lhamu Highway at Bidur Municipality-10 is also impassable. Meanwhile, a landslide has restricted traffic along the Prithvi Highway at Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-7 in Dhading to one-way movement.
In Gandaki Province, landslides have completely blocked the Chame–Besisahar road section at Nasong Rural Municipality-3 in Manang district. The Karnali Corridor at Sarkegad Rural Municipality-6 in Humla is also fully blocked, according to the Department of Roads.
The Department of Roads has advised motorists and travelers to remain highly cautious while using roads in vulnerable areas. It has also urged the public to check official updates on road conditions and closures before beginning their journeys.
