Monsoon winds continue to affect weather across country



KATHMANDU: Monsoon winds continue to influence weather conditions across Nepal, with rainfall expected in several parts of the country today.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the monsoon trough is currently positioned near its average location in the eastern region, while in the western region, it lies closer to northern Nepal than its usual position.

The monsoon system has been bringing rainfall mainly to western parts of the country, it said. Heavy rainfall has recently been recorded in several areas, including Baitadi, Kanchanpur, Kailali and Bardiya. Significant rainfall has also been measured in parts of Syangja and Nawalpur.

This afternoon, moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in many parts of the mountainous and hilly areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. Similar weather is expected in some mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces.

Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is also forecast for many areas of the Terai in Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as a few areas of the Terai in Madhesh, Koshi and Bagmati provinces.

The Department has forecast heavy rainfall in the hilly areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, along with some areas of the Terai in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces. Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two locations in the Terai of Lumbini Province.

Tonight, rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning are possible in some areas of the Himalayan and hilly regions. Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is also likely in some parts of the Terai in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, with a few areas of Madhesh Province also likely to receive rain.
