Indian Power Secretary visits construction site of Arun-III hydel project



SANKHUWASABHA: Secretary of India’s Ministry of Power Pankaj Agarwal visited Sankhuwasabha district on Thursday to inspect the ongoing construction works of the 900 MW Arun-III hydropower project.

The project is being developed by India’s SJVN Arun-III Power Development Company.

During the inspection, Agarwal and his team observed construction progress at the powerhouse site in Pukhuwa of Chichila Rural Municipality and the dam site at Phyaksinda of Makalu Rural Municipality.

The delegation reviewed the progress and implementation status of major components, including civil and electro-mechanical works, the dam, intake system and other infrastructure.

Agarwal expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction and urged the concerned authorities to ensure timely completion of the project while prioritising quality, safety protocols and environmental sustainability.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, Chairman of India’s Central Electricity Authority Ghanshyam Prasad, and other Indian officials were present during the inspection visit.

CEO of SJVN Arun-III Power Development Company Pankaj Chaudhary briefed the delegation on the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, including rehabilitation and resettlement programmes, community development activities and environmental protection efforts.
