KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said he is “wearing the shoes of B.P. Koirala,” highlighting the responsibility of carrying forward the legacy of the party’s founding leader.
Addressing a programme in Kathmandu, Thapa said the party should focus on solving national problems instead of being consumed by internal disputes.
Recalling the legacy of B.P. Koirala, he said leading the Nepali Congress is both a matter of pride and responsibility.
“I am wearing the shoes of B.P. Koirala,” he said. “Should the president of the Nepali Congress focus on the country’s problems or internal conflicts?”
He stressed that many leaders and cadres have contributed through long struggles to establish democracy, adding that the party’s core objective should be to improve citizens’ freedom, dignity, and living standards.
Thapa also said direct engagement with supporters and well-wishers is essential to strengthen the party’s base.
Referring to past elections, he said the Congress had lost around one million voters and that rebuilding trust among disillusioned supporters remains his key priority.
