Dang youth move toward self-reliance through watermelon farming



DANG: Five youths from Rampur in Dangisharan Rural Municipality–1 in Dang, have collectively taken up watermelon farming and are moving toward self-reliance through agriculture along the banks of the Babai River.

Krishna Chaudhary said the group began collective farming with the aim of creating opportunities within the country and becoming self-sufficient at home.

They are currently cultivating different varieties of watermelon, including Ahana, Puja, Saraswati, Divya, and Sweet Honey, across 12 plots in the village.

At present, Ahana watermelon is being sold at Rs 80 per kg, while other varieties such as Sweet Honey, Saraswati, Puja, and Divya are being sold at Rs 50 per kg. The farmers are currently selling around 100 to 150 kg daily.

After the watermelon season ends, the group plans to cultivate peanuts and other seasonal vegetables.
