New names recommended for Jhapa-1 after Bishwa Prakash Sharma opts out of candidacy

JHAPA: Following Nepali Congress Vice-President Bishwa Prakash Sharma’s decision not to contest the upcoming House of Representatives election, the party has recommended new candidates for Jhapa constituency No. 1.

The constituency committee meeting held on Saturday recommended five names to the party’s central committee, according to constituency chair Indra Budhathoki.

Those recommended include All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Pankaj Bikram Nembang, advocate Ashok Kumar Pokharel, Bina Tamang, Gautam Majumdar, and Subesh Kumar Paneru.

Sharma, a former general secretary of the party and current vice-president, was elected to the House of Representatives from the same constituency in the 2079 BS election. Last month, the constituency committee had unanimously recommended Sharma as the candidate.

However, after Sharma announced that he would not contest the election this time, the committee forwarded a fresh list of candidates, Budhathoki said.
