Cabinet forms talks team for loan shark victims, approves new coin designs



KATHMANDU: The Cabinet on Thursday approved a series of key decisions, including the formation of a government negotiating team to hold talks with victims of loan sharking and the issuance of new coin designs.

The meeting decided to form a negotiation team led by Pushkar Sapkota, Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, to address the demands of citizens affected by unfair lending practices.

The team will include joint secretaries from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration.

The Cabinet also authorised Nepal Rastra Bank to mint newly designed Rs 1 and Rs 2 coins.

In another decision, the government approved the acceptance of a US$1.81 million grant from the Government of South Korea to establish the Nepal Legal Information Pilot System.

The Cabinet further decided that, for projects already approved within national forest areas located inside protected areas, the concerned ministry may grant permission for the removal of additional trees and utility poles after the completion of the required legal procedures.

It also approved the organisational structures and staffing positions of various ministries and endorsed the Policy Research Institute Development Committee (Formation) (First Amendment) Order.

In addition, the Cabinet approved arrangements for the management of employees serving under contractual appointments.
