KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police took action against 2,299 motorists in a single day for violating traffic regulations, generating more than Rs 2.18 million in revenue for the state treasury.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, a total of Rs 2,186,503 was collected in fines from traffic rule violations.
Traffic police spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi said 95 drivers were penalized for driving under the influence of alcohol, while 99 were booked for operating ride-sharing services in violation of regulations.
Similarly, 129 motorists were fined for jumping traffic lights and 147 for overspeeding.
Police also took action against 108 drivers for violating lane discipline, 115 for using horns in prohibited areas, 87 for parking vehicles on sidewalks, and 98 for driving on one-way roads.
In addition, 1,421 motorists were penalized for various other traffic rule violations, according to traffic police.
The traffic office said enforcement campaigns will continue to improve road discipline and enhance safety across the Kathmandu Valley.
