Moderate rain and gusty winds likely today



KATHMANDU: Weather conditions across the country are being affected by westerly and local wind systems, with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasting rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds in several provinces.

The Department said moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in some hilly and mountainous areas, while strong winds may affect parts of the Terai region.

At present, the weather is generally cloudy in the mountainous and hilly regions of Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, while the remaining provinces are experiencing partly cloudy conditions.

Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in a few places in Gandaki Province and at one or two places in Lumbini and Koshi provinces.

This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces, and partly cloudy in the remaining hilly and Terai regions.

The Department has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall, thunder and lightning in some places of Koshi Province, and at a few places in the hilly and mountainous regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Light snowfall is also possible in some high-altitude areas. A few places in Madhes Province may also receive rainfall. Gusty winds are likely in some parts of Madhes, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Tonight, the weather will remain generally cloudy in the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces, while the rest of the hilly and Terai regions will see partly cloudy skies.

There remains a possibility of moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning at a few places in Koshi Province and in parts of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Gusty winds are also likely in some Terai areas of Madhes and Lumbini provinces, the Department said.
