PM Karki inspects new service delivery model at Kathmandu DAO

Prime Minister Sushila Karki inspected the newly introduced service delivery model at the District Administration Office Kathmandu on Monday. During her visit to the office in Babarmahal, the prime minister observed the overall system, including the Public Announcement System introduced to enhance governance and improve public service delivery. Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Karki expressed confidence that the new system would help provide services to citizens in a more efficient and convenient manner.

RSP to hold orientation for newly elected lawmakers

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is set to organize an orientation program for its newly elected lawmakers. The party will conduct the two-day orientation on Tuesday and Wednesday. According to party General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti, the program aims to inform the new members of parliament about their roles and responsibilities, as well as the party’s policies, vision and working approach. The orientation also seeks to ensure uniformity in the working style of the party’s lawmakers.

Reconstruction of BP Highway gains pace after flood and landslide damage

Permanent reconstruction of the BP Highway, which was repeatedly damaged by floods and landslides, is currently progressing at a rapid pace. According to the Division Road Office Bhaktapur, reconstruction work has been intensified at three locations along the damaged sections of the highway, which serves as the shortest route linking eastern and mid-hill regions of Nepal with the federal capital Kathmandu. Office chief and Senior Divisional Engineer Suman Yogesh said infrastructure development at high-risk areas is being accelerated with the aim of completing major structures before the upcoming monsoon and resuming vehicle operations along the highway.

Supreme Court hearing on Rabi Lamichhane cases deferred to Tuesday

A petition challenging the Attorney General’s decision to amend and drop cases of money laundering and organized crime against Rastriya Swatantra Party chair Rabi Lamichhane was scheduled for a swift hearing on Monday, but has been postponed. Attorney General Sabita Bhandari had decided to withdraw two cases filed against Lamichhane. The petition opposing this decision has been under consideration since Sunday. Senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi, along with Yubaraj Safal and law students, had separately filed petitions against Bhandari’s move to amend and drop the cases.

Israeli Ambassador lays memorial foundation for 11 Nepali students killed in Hamas attack

Israeli Ambassador Shmulik Arie Bass on Sunday laid the foundation stone for a memorial park at the Faculty of Agriculture, Far-Western University, in memory of 11 Nepali students who were killed in the October 7, 2023 Hamas terrorist attack in Israel. The memorial park aims to honour the students’ dedication, hard work, and aspirations while also symbolising the strong people-to-people connection between Nepal and Israel. During his visit to the Far-Western region, Ambassador Bass traveled to Punarbas Municipality in Kanchanpur, where he met Mayor Toya Prasad Sharma, former MP Tara Lama Tamang, and other local officials to discuss community development and opportunities for cooperation.

Nepal’s public debt reaches Rs 2.878 trillion

Nepal’s total public debt has reached Rs 2.878 trillion as of mid-March of the current fiscal year 2025/26, according to the Public Debt Management Office. A report published by the office shows that the country’s total public debt stood at Rs 2.878 trillion as of the mid-March, which is equivalent to 47.13 percent of Nepal’s gross domestic product. At the beginning of this fiscal year, Nepal’s total public debt was Rs 2.674 trillion. By mid-March, the amount had increased by Rs 204.24 billion.

Supply shortfall behind cooking gas shortage, says department

The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has said that the current shortage of cooking gas in the market is due to supply failing to meet demand. Speaking at a program organized by the National Consumer Forum in Kathmandu on Monday, department director Narahari Tiwari said the shortage has emerged mainly because the supply of LPG has fallen short of the required level. He said around 130 gas bullets per day are needed to meet demand, but the department has received information that only about 90 bullets are currently arriving daily.

Special Court asks ex-MP Santosh Chalise to pay Rs 500,000 bail

The Special Court has ordered former Santosh Chalise, a former member of Nepali Congress, to provide Rs 500,000 as bail in a corruption case. The bench, led by Special Court Chair Narayan Prasad Paudel and member Bidur Koirala, issued the bail order on Monday. Chalise is accused of corruption during his tenure as Mayor of Gokarneshwar Municipality. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed the case against him on December 14, 2025, claiming that he acquired Rs 36.8 million in illegal assets. During the investigation, Chalise reportedly gave denial statements before the CIAA officials and the Special Court bench.

A-Division clubs protest ANFA’s unilateral decision on league schedule

A-Division clubs staged a protest on Monday, accusing the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) of unilaterally deciding the schedule for the Martyrs Memorial A-Division League without implementing prior agreements reached with the clubs. The protesting clubs gathered at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato and attempted to march toward the association’s office. However, police stopped them at the gate, after which the clubs staged a sit-in outside the premises. Club representatives said ANFA fixed the league date without consultation, ignoring an earlier agreement that included a schedule decided on November 3, 2025. They demanded that the federation honor that agreement.

Family seeks swift probe into Inisha BK murder, meets Home Minister

The family of 16-year-old Inisha BK has demanded a swift investigation into her rape and murder, urging authorities to bring those responsible to justice. Representing the victim’s family, Chandra Bahadur BK and Tapendra BK met Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal on Sunday and submitted a memorandum seeking a fair probe into the incident. They urged the government to make the facts of the case public and ensure that those involved are brought under the legal framework to deliver justice to the victim.

Protest staged at Maitighar demanding release of Gen-Z movement probe report

Demonstrators staged a protest at Maitighar Mandala on Monday, demanding the government make public the report of a commission formed to investigate the Gen-Z movement. The commission, led by Gauri Bahadur Karki, had earlier submitted its report to the government following an inquiry into the movement. The protest was organized by the Gen‑Z Movement Alliance Nepal, Nepal Gen‑Z Front and Gen‑Z Civic Forum.

Drone attack sparks fire near Dubai airport, flights temporarily halted

A fire broke out near fuel tanks close to Dubai International Airport following an alleged drone attack, prompting authorities to temporarily suspend flight operations. According to international media reports, the fire erupted in areas surrounding fuel storage tanks located near the airport. Civil defense teams quickly responded and successfully brought the blaze under control. Authorities said no injuries have been reported in the incident.

KMC begins internal management of dry waste

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started managing dry waste internally in a bid to reduce the volume of garbage transported to the Bancharedanda Landfill Site. The metropolis has begun dry waste management in 10 wards as part of the initiative. According to Sarita Rai, chief of the Environment Management Department at KMC, around 3.19 metric tons of waste is currently being transported daily to the landfill site.

Nepal Medical Council places doctor on six-month probation over alleged negligence

The Nepal Medical Council has taken disciplinary action against physician Manoj Kumar Gupta, placing him on probation for six months over alleged medical negligence. The decision was made during the council’s full board meetings held on February 23 and 24, according to registrar Satis Kumar Dev. During the probation period, Dr. Gupta will only be allowed to practice under the supervision of another physician. The council said the decision was based on statements from doctors involved in the surgery as well as expert opinions.

Woman, two children go missing in Surkhet; search underway

A woman and her two children have gone missing since Sunday morning in Surkhet District, prompting police to launch a search operation. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohan Jung Budthapa of the District Police Office, Maya Kathayat from Piplegaun of Gurbhakot Municipality-11 has been out of contact along with her 11-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son. Her husband, Bhupendra Kathayat, filed a missing persons report with police after the three failed to return home.

Gold price rises slightly, silver declines in domestic market

The price of gold increased slightly in the domestic market on Monday, while silver prices declined, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association. The federation said gold price rose by Rs 100 per tola, reaching Rs 309,500 per tola. The precious metal had traded at Rs 309,400 per tola the Sunday. Despite the slight increase, gold prices have dropped by around Rs 30,000 per tola over the past one and a half months.
