Prolonged drought threatens winter crops in Bhojpur

BHOJPUR: Farmers in Bhojpur district are facing growing concerns as a prolonged drought is affecting winter crops. Wheat, barley, potato, and mustard fields have begun to dry up due to the lack of rainfall.

Beni Bahadur Bista of Bhojpur Municipality-5 said, “It has become extremely difficult for farmers to protect winter crops as there has been no rain this season. The crops are already drying up, and further damage is likely if rainfall does not arrive soon.”

The hilly district has long struggled with limited irrigation facilities. With rivers and rivulets drying up and groundwater levels receding, farmers are finding it increasingly challenging to provide sufficient water for their fields. Local farmers fear that crop production could decline significantly this year.

Officials from the Agriculture Knowledge Centre in the district confirmed that the impacts of the drought are already visible and advised farmers to explore alternative irrigation methods wherever possible to mitigate the damage.
