Tension flares at Kantipath as rival NC factions stage protests

KATHMANDU: Political tensions spilled onto the streets on Friday as leaders and cadres of the Sher Bahadur Deuba faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) staged slogan-chanting protests outside the Election Commission at Kantipath in Kathmandu.

Earlier in the day, leaders from both rival factions had met the Acting Chief Election Commissioner and other commissioners to present their respective claims and views.

After the meetings, workers from both sides gathered outside the Election Commission, raising slogans and escalating tensions in the Kantipath area. In response, a large number of security personnel were deployed to maintain law and order.
