BANGKOK: Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has called on the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to mobilise additional resources to support Nepal’s post-disaster recovery, climate-resilient reconstruction and long-term economic development.
Wagle made the request during a meeting with ADB President Masato Kanda in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday. He is in the Thai capital to attend the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
During the meeting, Wagle thanked the ADB for promptly approving an emergency grant to support rescue operations following the devastating floods in Nepal. He also appreciated the bank’s solidarity with the country and urged it to continue providing assistance for the reconstruction of disaster-hit areas.
The finance minister emphasised the importance of rebuilding affected communities in ways that would strengthen their resilience to future climate-related disasters.
In response, Kanda reaffirmed the ADB’s commitment to Nepal’s development, stating that cooperation with the country remained a key priority for the bank.
Finance Secretary Ghanashyam Upadhyaya and Ministry of Finance Joint Secretary Amrit Lamsal also attended the meeting as members of the Nepali delegation.
