KATHMANDU: Water levels in Nepal’s major rivers remain below the alert threshold, but rainfall could cause a significant rise in river flows and increase the risk of flash floods in several districts, according to the Flood Forecasting Division.
The Division said in its Tuesday morning bulletin that measurements taken this morning showed the flow of the Koshi, Narayani, Bagmati, Karnali and Mahakali rivers, along with their tributaries, as well as the Kankai, Kamala, Babai, East Rapti and West Rapti rivers, remains below the alert level.
However, continued rainfall could lead to a significant rise in water levels in these rivers.
Similarly, the flow of small rivers and streams in Taplejung, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Sindhupalchowk, Kavrepalanchowk, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Gorkha, Tanahun, Lamjung, Kaski, Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Bajhang and Bajura, as well as surrounding areas, is expected to increase significantly today.
The Division has warned of a moderate risk of flash floods in these areas.
