POKHARA: The 13th meeting of the Joint Steering Committee (JSC) and Joint Working Group (JWG) between Nepal and India on energy cooperation has concluded in Pokhara, focusing on strengthening bilateral collaboration in the energy sector.
According to the Embassy of India, the 13th meeting of the Joint Steering Committee on energy cooperation was held on Wednesday under the joint chairmanship of India’s Ministry of Power Secretary Pankaj Agrawal and Nepal’s Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Secretary Sarita Dawadi.
Prior to this, the 13th meeting of the Joint Working Group was held on Tuesday under the co-chairmanship of India’s Ministry of Power Joint Secretary (Transmission) Pankaj Kumar and Nepal’s Ministry of Energy Joint Secretary Sandeep Kumar Dev.
The meetings reviewed cooperation in hydropower development, cross-border electricity trade, expansion of transmission infrastructure, and overall progress in bilateral energy initiatives.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over progress made in the construction of various cross-border transmission lines, including the 400 kV Gorakhpur–New Butwal transmission line.
Discussions were also held on accelerating the implementation of ongoing and proposed power generation and transmission projects, along with providing necessary facilitation.
The meeting also covered coordinated operation of the Nepal and India power grids, development of solar energy projects, cooperation in green hydrogen, and capacity enhancement of Nepali technical manpower.
Earlier on Tuesday, Indian Power Secretary Pankaj Agrawal held a meeting with Nepal’s Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha and discussed issues related to bilateral energy cooperation.
Officials expressed confidence that the outcomes of the meetings would further strengthen and improve existing energy cooperation between Nepal and India.
