Constitution amendment task force calls for positive dialogue with Gen-Z representatives

KATHMANDU: The task force formed to prepare a discussion paper on constitutional amendment has called for constructive engagement, clarifying uncertainty surrounding its planned consultation with Gen-Z representatives.

Coordinator of the task force Asim Shah said the group’s main objective is to incorporate suggestions from all stakeholders to finalize the discussion paper.

He said Gen-Z representatives have also been invited as part of the same inclusive consultation process.

Shah’s remarks came after some Gen-Z representatives raised concerns and discussed possible boycott of a consultation scheduled for Friday at 5 PM, citing dissatisfaction over agreements made with the previous interim government.

He clarified that earlier agreements with the interim government are in the process of implementation and added that the formation of a Gen-Z council is also in its final stage.

The coordinator stressed that the ongoing consultation is specifically aimed at gathering input for constitutional amendment and should not be mixed with other political issues.

The task force said it has allocated time for both oral and written suggestions from Gen-Z participants, adding that claims of limited speaking time are being misrepresented.

Shah assured that no voice would be ignored and urged all invited participants to engage in the dialogue without being influenced by political disputes or misunderstandings.

The consultation process began on April 8 and has so far included discussions with constitutional experts, former bureaucrats and media professionals.

The task force will continue consultations with other stakeholders in the coming days.

The process is being conducted under the government’s 100-point action plan to build consensus on key issues such as the governance system, electoral model and federal structure.

The task force, which includes representatives from various political parties, emphasized the need for meaningful participation of Gen-Z groups to ensure ownership of constitutional reforms across all sections of society.
