PM Shah summons Finance Minister Wagle after policy and programme endorsed by House

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balen Shah on Friday invited Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers shortly after the government’s policy and programme was endorsed by the House of Representatives.

The meeting took place after Wagle responded to lawmakers during parliamentary deliberations on the policy and programme for the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27.

The House unanimously passed the policy and programme on Thursday, formally paving the way for the presentation of the national budget.

Although the policy and programme was introduced by Prime Minister Shah himself, he remained absent throughout parliamentary discussions on the document.

Shah had earlier drawn criticism after walking out of Parliament midway while President Ram Chandra Paudel was presenting the government’s policies and programmes.

Opposition lawmakers had repeatedly demanded the Prime Minister’s presence in Parliament, accusing him of failing to remain accountable to the House during deliberations on the government’s agenda.
