Mahashivaratri: Devotees flock to Pashupatinath (photos)

KATHMANDU: Hindus across Nepal are celebrating Mahashivaratri today with devotion, reverence, and joy.

Observed on Fagun Krishna Chaturdashi, Mahashivaratri is considered one of the most sacred days dedicated to Lord Shiva.

According to the Shiva Purana, this festival commemorates the night when Shiva manifested and is counted among the four significant nights, Kaalratri, Moharatri, Sukhratri, and Shivaratri. The day is believed to inspire spiritual awakening and bring solace to those who are suffering or sorrowful.

Today, a large number of sadhus and devotees have gathered at Pashupatinath Temple. Sadhu Babas can be seen seated in the temple premises with incense sticks, while devotees have been patiently waiting in line since morning for a glimpse of Lord Pashupatinath.
