Mahashivaratri being observed nationwide

KATHMANDU: Mahashivaratri is being observed across the country today, with Hindu devotees offering prayers to Lord Shiva.

Worshippers have thronged Shiva temples since early morning to perform special pujas in reverence to the deity. Devotees began arriving at the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu from the early hours.

On the occasion, all four gates of the temple were opened at 3 am to manage the large influx of devotees. Sadhus from various parts of Nepal and India have also gathered at the temple premises. The Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) has been providing them with alms and necessary support.

The festival, which falls on Krishna Chaturdashi, has drawn devotees to Shivalayas across the country. Special worship ceremonies are being held at major Shiva shrines, including Halesi and Devghat.

The PADT has arranged additional facilities and security measures to ensure smooth and orderly worship at Pashupatinath during the festival.
