Gagan Thapa to draft NC manifesto for March 5 election



KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress led by Gagan Thapa has decided to prepare a party manifesto for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.

The decision was taken by the first meeting of the newly elected Central Working Committee, held on Thursday in Kupandol, Lalitpur. The meeting resolved to form a Manifesto Drafting Committee under the chairmanship of party President Thapa.

According to party spokesperson Devaraj Chalise, the meeting also decided to form an Election Mobilization Committee under Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma to steer the party’s campaign for the parliamentary polls.

The Central Committee further resolved to update the Election Commission with all decisions taken by the Special General Convention that elected the new leadership. A team has been sent to the Commission to submit the necessary documents and to revise the party’s proportional representation candidate list.

The four-day Second Special General Convention, which concluded at 3 am on Thursday at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu, unanimously elected Gagan Thapa as party president. Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Pushpa Bhusal were elected vice presidents, while Pradip Paudel and Gururaj Ghimire were chosen as general secretaries.

Similarly, Dila Sangraula, Prakash Rasaily, Bahadur Singh Lama, Udaya Shumsher Rana, Mukta Kumari Yadav, Farumullah Mansoor, Yogendra Chaudhary and Karna Bahadur Budha were elected as joint general secretaries.

Meanwhile, the establishment faction led by Sher Bahadur Deuba, which held a Central Committee meeting in Sanepa on Wednesday afternoon, has expelled Gagan Thapa, Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Joint General Secretary Farumullah Mansoor for five years for organizing the Special General Convention.
