KATHMANDU: Thousands of devotees have thronged the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu to mark Haritalika Teej. All four gates of the temple were opened at 3:15 am today to facilitate the movement of worshippers.
Security sources said more than 9,000 devotees had visited the temple by 7 am, while around 3,000 others were waiting in line for darshan.
A total of 1,250 police personnel have been deployed in and around the temple premises to maintain security and manage the crowd.
Nepal Police has taken responsibility for overall security arrangements, including traffic management and the operation of a health camp for devotees. Security personnel are also monitoring the area through CCTV cameras and drones, while plainclothes officers have been deployed for surveillance.
Devotees said the two-shift security arrangement has made it more convenient for them to visit the temple and offer prayers throughout the day.
