KATHMANDU: Major highways connecting different parts of the country have been disrupted by floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall.
According to the Nepal Police’s road update issued on Monday morning, several major road sections in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces have been completely or partially blocked.
The Prithvi Highway has been obstructed by a landslide at Krishnabhir in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-7, Dhading. Traffic has resumed in one direction after landslide debris was cleared from the Jawangkhola and Sheetal Bazaar sections of the highway.
Similarly, the Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubeshi road section in Rasuwa has remained completely blocked for an extended period due to flooding at Khalte in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5. Police said other major roads in Rasuwa have also been closed until further notice.
The Pasang Lhamu Highway has been completely blocked due to flooding at Simtar in Bidur Municipality-10, Nuwakot. Meanwhile, vehicular movement along the Tokha-Chhahare road section has been restricted between 10 pm and 5 am due to the risk of floods and landslides.
On the BP Highway, goods vehicles weighing up to 10 tonnes are permitted to operate between 7 pm and 5 am along the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi section in Kavre. Other vehicles will be allowed to operate between 4 am and 6 pm after assessing the road conditions.
Meanwhile, one-way traffic has been resumed along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section in Chitwan after repairs were carried out at Tuinkhola, with traffic movement being managed according to the volume of vehicles.
In Gandaki Province, only small vehicles are currently being allowed to operate along the Chame-Besisahar road section in Manang due to ongoing road construction work at Dharapani in Naso Rural Municipality-3.
