National Child Rights Day being observed today

KATHMANDU: National Child Rights Day is being observed today under the theme, “Protection of Childhood: Security of the Future.”

The day is observed annually on 29 Bhadra according to the Nepali calendar, with the objective of strengthening the accountability and responsibility of civil society and all stakeholders in promoting and protecting child rights and ensuring a child-friendly environment.

Stakeholders have stressed the urgent need to rescue, support, and protect children who have lost their parents, guardians, or property in the devastating Bhotekoshi floods that occurred on August 26.

Ram Bahadur Chand, information officer at the National Child Rights Council, said the government is committed to providing affected children with services, including temporary protection and psychosocial counselling.

Various organizations, including the National Child Rights Council, have organized programmes to mark the occasion.
