KATHMANDU: Pakistan Embassy in Kathmandu marked its 80th Independence Day on Friday with a flag-hoisting ceremony attended by members of the Pakistani community, Nepali well-wishers, and embassy officials along with their families.
On the occasion, Ambassador of Pakistan Mohammad Aamir Khan unfurled the national flag. Members of the Pakistani community, Nepali friends, and embassy officials along with their families attended the ceremony.
Likewise, in a message, President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari said that 14 August is a day to remember the sacrifices that made Pakistan possible. He paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the leaders and workers of the Pakistan Movement. The President said that independence is not only a historic achievement but also a responsibility.
He highlighted Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue in the region, stating that the country has effectively used its channels of communication, geographical position, and diplomatic capital to encourage dialogue and de-escalation at a time when wider conflict could have serious consequences for the region and the world.
Similarly, in a message, Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that the journey toward national development and prosperity continues despite various challenges. He praised the country’s armed forces for demonstrating that the defence of the motherland is invincible.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan is recognized among the community of nations as a strong, resolute, and dignified country and a committed advocate of peace. He also referred to the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye as evidence of Pakistan’s effective regional role and emerging strategic strength.
He added that lasting peace in South Asia depends on a diplomatic resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions, international law, and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, in his message, said that since independence Pakistan has made significant progress in various fields under the guiding principles of unity, faith, and discipline.
He said the occasion reaffirmed the nation’s determination to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity while remaining committed to international law, responsible statecraft, and regional peace. He paid special tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces, police, and paramilitary personnel for their courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to national security.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Mohammad Aamir Khan paid tribute to the historic struggle of 1947 and the sacrifices made by the nation’s forefathers. He said Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to help reduce tensions in West Asia had made a positive contribution at the global level.
The ambassador reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace and progress and expressed confidence that the nation would remain united in the face of any challenge. He also emphasized Pakistan’s readiness to further strengthen diplomatic and economic relations with Nepal, based on centuries-old civilizational links, historic ties, and shared values.
