Opposition lawmaker says Prime Minister must answer Parliament in person

KATHMANDU: Opposition lawmaker Gyanendra Shahi of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP Nepal) has said the Prime Minister was not called to Parliament merely for appearances or speeches, but to answer lawmakers’ questions directly.

Speaking in the House of Representatives on Thursday, Shahi said the mindset of running the country while holding Parliament “hostage” was against democratic values and insisted that Prime Minister Balendra Shah must personally attend the session.

“The House was not convened to see the Prime Minister’s face, but to seek answers,” Shahi said. “The Prime Minister must immediately appear in Parliament and respond.”

Opposition parties have maintained that they will not allow the House proceedings to continue if the Prime Minister fails to attend in person.

Shahi also strongly criticised the Prime Minister’s conduct and reiterated that the Prime Minister must appear before Parliament himself.

Following continued obstruction by opposition lawmakers, Speaker DP Aryal adjourned the House meeting for 15 minutes.
