MYAGDI: Beni Municipality has maintained a zero rate of home births for the fourth consecutive year, with all pregnant women accessing maternity services from health facilities and qualified health professionals.
The municipality has recorded no home deliveries since fiscal year 2078/79. Authorities have prioritised institutional deliveries, citing the risks associated with home births and their potential complications for both mothers and newborns.
Mayor Surat KC said continued efforts to reduce childbirth-related risks and improve maternal and child health have helped the municipality maintain zero home deliveries for four consecutive years. “Over the past four years, 100 percent of pregnant women in Beni Municipality have received maternity services from qualified health professionals,” he said. “We are continuing awareness programmes and other initiatives to ensure that home deliveries remain at zero.”
According to Public Health Officer Dipesh Poudel, a total of 344 women received safe maternity services in the municipality during fiscal year 2082/83. The number was 847 in 2078/79, 677 in 2079/80, 392 in 2080/81 and 437 in 2081/82.
Beni Municipality has 10 wards, with maternity services available at Province Hospital Beni and health facilities in Jamrukkot, Bhakimli, Singa, Pulachaur and Patlekhet. The availability of these services has helped encourage pregnant women to seek professional care during childbirth and reduce the risks associated with home deliveries.
