KATHMANDU: The Narayangadh–Muglin Highway has been completely blocked in both directions since Monday evening after continuous rainfall triggered falling rocks and mudslides along the route.
The road was obstructed after rocks began falling continuously from above at Tuinkhola, while a mudslide swept across the road at Seti Dobhan, halting traffic in both directions.
Road Supervisor Ishwar Chhetri said efforts to reopen the highway were ongoing as of 7:30 p.m., but persistent heavy rain has hampered clearance operations.
Authorities said the reopening time remains uncertain as adverse weather continues to trigger landslides and debris flows.
Vehicles stranded by the closure have been directed to safe locations. Officials have urged drivers and passengers to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from landslide-prone areas.
Travelers planning to use the Narayangadh–Muglin Highway have also been advised to check the latest road conditions before setting out.
The highway is one of Nepal’s busiest transport corridors, and the closure has disrupted east-west travel across the country. Authorities said road clearance work will continue and traffic will resume once weather conditions improve and the debris is removed.
