Niharika Rajput stages sit-in outside Singha Durbar after alleging home minister refused meeting

KATHMANDU: Activist Niharika Rajput and Binu Yadav staged a sit-in outside the southern gate of Singha Durbar on Monday, alleging that Home Minister Sudan Gurung refused to meet them despite their request for justice.

The two protesters lay on the road outside the restricted area at the southern entrance of Singha Durbar, continuing their demonstration despite persistent monsoon rain.

Rajput had previously filed a rape case against Shivaraj Shrestha. However, the two reached a court-mediated settlement on January 31, 2023, before District Court Dhanusha Judge Brajesh Pyakurel under Section 193(4) of the National Civil Procedure Code, 2017.

After the protest began in the prohibited area, police removed Rajput and Yadav from directly in front of the gate and relocated them to a nearby area.

The protesters said they resorted to the sit-in after they were unable to secure a meeting with the home minister regarding their demands.
