Nepal to face Jersey in first ODI after 18 years

KATHMANDU: The Nepali national cricket team will take on Jersey in the first of a two-match ODI series on Monday.

According to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), the match will begin at 3:45 pm Nepali time.

Nepal will play the second and final ODI against Jersey on July 15.

Ahead of the series, the Nepali team conducted a special preparation camp at the NCC Granville in Jersey.

This marks Nepal’s return to the British island after 18 years. Nepal had last played in Jersey in 2008 during the ICC World Cricket League Division-5 tournament.

Nepal’s campaign in that tournament ended after a semifinal defeat against Afghanistan. However, the competition remains memorable in Nepali cricket history as bowler Mehboob Alam took all 10 wickets against Mozambique in the group stage, becoming the first player to achieve the feat in an official ICC tournament.

Following the Jersey series, Nepal will travel to the Netherlands to participate in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series involving Nepal, the Netherlands and Namibia.

Nepal will begin its League 2 campaign against Namibia on July 21, followed by matches against the Netherlands on July 23, Namibia on July 27 and the Netherlands again on July 29.
