KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has begun collecting suggestions from provincial-level committees through a task force formed to lead the party’s purification, strengthening, transformation and reorganization process.
The initiative follows the party’s review of the local-level by-elections held on March 5, with an aim to further strengthen ties between the party and the public through structural reforms and organizational improvements.
According to Niraj Acharya, chief of the UML Central Publicity and Publication Department, the task force launched its consultation drive from Kathmandu on Friday in coordination with the Bagmati Province Committee.
He said the Bagmati Province Committee meeting began on Friday, followed by a consultation gathering aimed at collecting inputs for party reform.
The UML had formed a 15-member task force led by Vice-Chair Ram Bahadur Thapa following the party secretariat meeting held on May 24.
The task force’s first meeting, held on June 9 in the presence of party Chair KP Sharma Oli, had finalised a schedule for province-wise consultations.
As per the schedule, the task force will collect suggestions from Koshi Province on June 16, Lumbini on June 18 , Sudurpaschim on June 20, Karnali on June 22, Gandaki on June 25, and Madhesh Province on June 27.
Similarly, consultations will be held in the Capital Special Province on June 30 and Contact Coordination Special Province on July 1.
Participants in the provincial-level discussions will include central committee members as well as provincial and district-level office bearers from respective regions.
The task force will further collect suggestions from party-affiliated organisations on July 2, followed by consultations with heads of central departments and various party bodies on June 3.
