Passport delivery service launched through postal network in Chitwan

CHITWAN: In line with the government’s policy, passports have started being delivered directly to citizens’ homes through the postal service.

Passports issued by the District Administration Office, Chitwan, began reaching service recipients through post offices from Tuesday.

According to Chief of the District Post Office Chitwan, Shalikram Basyal, the service was formally launched by delivering a passport to Ram Babu Praja of Srijana Tol, Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-7.

A total of 19 passports were dispatched today and 44 on Tuesday to different local levels across the district.

Among them, 12 passports were delivered directly to recipients’ homes on Tuesday.

The District Post Office has sent passports to six municipal post offices and two out of three postal counters within Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

Similarly, passports have also been sent to 12 additional post offices located in various municipalities across the district. There are five such offices in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, four in Rapti Municipality, and one each in Khairahani and Ratnanagar municipalities.

Once passports arrive at the District Post Office from the District Administration Office, they are forwarded to the nearest post office based on the recipient’s address. Postal staff then deliver them door to door.

Applicants can choose their preferred passport collection method while filling out the application form. Those opting for home delivery are required to pay an additional Rs 55 at the time of application.

Basyal said a receipt is also sent along with the passport.

The postal office and its subordinate units currently have a total of 72 employees, including permanent, temporary and contract staff.
