House proceedings disrupted after PM Balen Shah remains absent from Parliament

KATHMANDU: Proceedings of the House of Representatives were disrupted on Wednesday after opposition parties protested the absence of Prime Minister Balen Shah during discussions on the government’s policy and programme.

Amid continued obstruction and disagreement in the chamber, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal adjourned the meeting for 15 minutes and invited opposition parties for discussions in an effort to resolve the deadlock.

Opposition lawmakers, along with members of the Shram Sanskriti Party, protested the Prime Minister’s absence, with some lawmakers boycotting the session and walking out of the House.

The opposition has been demanding that Shah personally attend Parliament and respond to lawmakers’ questions on the policy and programme instead of delegating the responsibility to other ministers.
