Harka Sampang walks out of Parliament over PM Balen Shah’s absence

KATHMANDU: Harka Sampang walked out of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, protesting the absence of Prime Minister Balen Shah during discussions on the government’s policy and programme.

Demanding that the Prime Minister personally appear in Parliament to answer questions raised by lawmakers, Sampang said he would not remain in the chamber until Shah attended the session.

He later exited the meeting hall along with lawmakers supporting his position.

Meanwhile, other opposition lawmakers continued protesting inside the House, chanting slogans and standing in objection to the Prime Minister’s absence, creating a tense atmosphere in Parliament.

Ain Mahar of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) also said the Prime Minister must be present in Parliament, describing the current situation as unacceptable.

The opposition has been demanding that Shah personally respond to questions raised on the government’s policy and programme instead of delegating the responsibility to Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle.
