Govt reduces federal ministries from 25 to 18

KATHMANDU: The government has reduced the number of federal ministries from 25 to 18 through a new division of responsibilities regulation approved by the Cabinet.

A Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday endorsed the Work Allocation Regulations, paving the way for the restructuring of ministries under the federal government.

Previously, the federal structure had allowed for 22 ministers and three state ministers, including the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

Following the latest decision, the federal government will now operate with 18 ministries, including the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

The Cabinet has also decided to rename the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration as the Ministry of Human Resources.

The government says the restructuring is aimed at streamlining administration and improving efficiency in governance.
