National Assembly members demand implementation of parliamentary committee directives

KATHMANDU: Members of the National Assembly have strongly urged the government to ensure the effective implementation of directives and suggestions issued by parliamentary committees.

During a meeting of the Development, Economic Affairs, and Good Governance Committee held at Singhdarbar on Monday, lawmakers expressed frustration over the “weak” state of compliance despite the committees’ intensive efforts in providing guidance to the administration.

While discussing the committee’s annual action plan, members emphasized that public concerns must be prioritized in future agendas. National Assembly member Kamala Panta highlighted the need to investigate security lapses surrounding the events of September 8 and 9, 2025. She stated that the persistent failure to implement past directives is a serious matter that must be addressed to maintain the committee’s relevance.

Echoing these concerns, member Urmila Aryal noted that while the committee prepares suggestions after in-depth study, the execution remains flawed. She further remarked that ensuring compliance might prove even more challenging under the current administration.

Meanwhile, member Mahantha Thakur urged the committee to focus specifically on the issues facing the people of the Terai-Madhesh region and other pressing public interest matters.

Committee Chairperson Krishna Prasad Paudel concluded the session by assuring members that the committee would move forward effectively by reviewing previous decisions and prioritizing critical issues to strengthen its oversight role.
