KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has begun removing advertisement materials from buses after the expiry of the contract with Trilok Sanrachana Pvt. Ltd., as responsible authorities failed to respond within the agreed time frame.
Under the public-private partnership arrangement, the company had installed advertisements on 39 buses in April 2025. Following the contract’s expiration, removal of advertisements, including solar-equipped boards on 25 buses, has commenced.
According to Bishnu Prasad Joshi, Chief of the Metropolitan Police, the city first signed a contract with the company on August 30, 2012, renewed it on April 9, 2015, and then again on August 9, 2021.
“We began removing the boards after receiving a letter from the Revenue Department to ensure compliance with the contract,” Joshi said. “The removal process will continue until all non-compliant advertisements are cleared.”
Senior Revenue Officer Pradeep Koirala stated that despite letters requesting payment for the increased annual advertisement fees as per the latest contract, the company has not yet paid. Currently, Rs 1,613,224 remains unpaid.
He added that advertisement fees per square foot were Rs 700 in FY 2021/22 and increased to Rs 1,000 in FY 2023/24. Of the pending amount, Rs 1,583,939 is for advertisement fees and Rs 29,285 for unpaid royalty.
