KATHMANDU: Electricity Regulatory Commission has scheduled a hearing on the disputed dedicated and trunk line tariff issue for March 15.
The Commission said the hearing will focus on the case filed by Panchakanya Plastic Industries Pvt. Ltd. and Panchakanya Steel regarding the tariff dispute.
According to existing provisions, an initial hearing on disputed tariffs is conducted by the commission. If the parties are dissatisfied with the commission’s decision, they may then seek legal remedy in court.
Some industrialists had approached the commission claiming they were not satisfied with the tariff determined by Nepal Electricity Authority.
The Commission has been holding hearings on the issue and making necessary decisions based on prevailing laws, regulations, and past precedents.
According to the Commission, Panchakanya Plastic and Panchakanya Steel filed applications seeking a review of the tariff determined by the authority, stating that they were dissatisfied with the charges imposed.
The application also seeks compensation from the Nepal Electricity Authority, alleging that consumers receiving electricity through dedicated feeders and trunk lines were unfairly required to pay outstanding electricity bills.
The Commission has requested the applicants’ legal representatives as well as three officials from the legal department of the Nepal Electricity Authority to be present during the hearing.
The Commission, which serves as the regulatory body for Nepal’s energy sector, is responsible for resolving such disputes. If the parties remain unsatisfied with its decision, they have the option to pursue the matter in court.
