ACC Premier Cup: Asif Sheikh hits century as Nepal dominate UAE final

KATHMANDU: Nepal opener Asif Sheikh has scored a century against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the final of the ACC Premier Cup One-Day International Tournament.

Playing at Bayuemas Oval Cricket Ground in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Sheikh reached his century off 103 balls, hitting eight fours and four sixes in the process.

The century is Sheikh’s second in One-Day International cricket. His impressive innings has helped Nepal maintain a strong position in the final.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Nepal reached 185 runs for the loss of two wickets in 34 overs.

Nepal made two changes to the playing XI for the final, bringing in Arjun Kumal and Sandeep Jora in place of Dev Khanal and Sher Malla. Jora is making his first appearance in the ongoing tournament.

The winner of today’s final will qualify for next year’s Asia Cup. Both Nepal and the UAE are aiming to claim the ACC Premier Cup title for the second time. Nepal won the inaugural edition in 2023, while the UAE lifted the trophy in 2024.

The two teams have faced each other 19 times in One-Day International cricket, with Nepal winning 11 matches and the UAE securing eight victories.
