LALITPUR: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has urged the government to immediately implement agreements reached following the recent incidents in Dewanganj-Kaptanganj of Sunsari and Siraha and form a high-level judicial commission to investigate the incidents.
The NC demanded that the government establish an inclusive and independent judicial commission to conduct an impartial, independent and credible investigation into the incidents, which followed communal clashes between two communities and resulted in deaths, injuries and damage to private property.
A meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC), held at its central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur, on Tuesday, reiterated the party’s earlier demand for a high-level commission to investigate the incidents.
Issuing a press statement, NC Acting Chief Secretary Krishna Dulal said the party was concerned over the deaths of innocent citizens in Dewanganj-Kaptanganj, Sunsari, Siraha and other places.
The party also expressed concern over extensive damage to private property caused by arson and vandalism.
The NC criticised the government for failing to fully implement agreements reached with victims despite its commitment to provide justice.
According to the party, only four people have so far been declared martyrs, while other commitments made by the government remain unimplemented.
The NC has therefore urged the government to enforce the agreements without delay and initiate the necessary procedures.
The CWC also called for effective implementation of agreements reached with various professional groups and organisations, including doctors, nurses and other health workers, civil servants, relief teachers, transport entrepreneurs, dairy and sugarcane farmers, and victims of loan-sharking and other unfair lending practices.
The CWC meeting will resume at 11:30 am on Wednesday, with members continuing discussions on contemporary political and other issues, according to Dulal.
