Sudurpaschim govt declares Badimalika-Ramaroshan Forest Conservation Area

DHANGADHI: The Sudurpaschim provincial government has announced the implementation of its decision to establish the Badimalika-Ramaroshan Forest Conservation Area by linking the Badimalika area of Bajura with the Ramaroshan area of Achham.

Speaking at an event in Dhangadhi on Wednesday, Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah said the provincial Cabinet had decided to declare the area a forest conservation zone at its meeting on August 4.

The declaration has been made under Section 26(1) of the Sudurpaschim Province Forest Act, 2077.

“The government has decided to develop important forests and natural areas of the two districts as a single conservation area,” Shah said.

He said the provincial government was committed to strengthening the protection of natural resources, biodiversity and forests in the Badimalika and Ramaroshan areas.

498.4 sq km brought under protection

The newly declared conservation area covers parts of Badimalika Municipality-5, 6, 7 and 8 and Triveni Municipality-5, 6, 7 and 9 in Bajura.

In Achham, the area includes Mellekh Rural Municipality-1 and 2 and Ramaroshan Rural Municipality-4, 5 and 6.

In total, 498.4 square kilometres of forest have been brought under the conservation area.

Conservation and eco-tourism

Badimalika is known for its religious and natural tourism potential, while Ramaroshan is renowned for its natural landscapes, lakes and biodiversity.

The provincial government believes bringing the two areas under a single conservation landscape will create a stronger foundation for protecting forests and natural resources while also promoting eco-tourism.

The government has said conservation, management and sustainable use of forests, wildlife, biodiversity and natural resources within the area will be prioritised.

It also expects the declaration to strengthen cooperation between local governments in the two districts in conservation and tourism development.

The integrated conservation area is expected to provide a broader framework for protecting the region’s natural heritage while creating opportunities for local communities to participate in and benefit from conservation and tourism activities.
