KATHMANDU: Two political parties have objected to remarks made by Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal during Tuesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, demanding that his statements be removed from parliamentary records.
During his address in Parliament, the former Defence Minister reportedly called for either the cancellation or complete revision of the government’s policy and program. He also made strong remarks against the Nepali Army, describing it as functioning in a manner similar to an organization aligned with a political party.
The comments triggered immediate objections in the House.
Ruling party and opposition lawmakers raised concerns, with Manish Khanal of the Rastriya Swatantra Party registering a formal objection. He demanded that all of Badal’s remarks be expunged from the parliamentary record.
Khanal said the House of Representatives should not be referred to as an “anarchic crowd” and strongly objected to the remarks made against the Nepali Army.
“He has referred to the sovereign Parliament as an unruly crowd,” Khanal said. “He has also made controversial remarks against the Nepali Army. One party must show respect to another.”
He also objected to Badal referring to the Gen-Z movement as a so-called “blue revolution” and insisted that all of his statements be removed from the record.
Similarly, Khushbu Oli of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party also strongly criticized the remarks, particularly those directed at the Nepali Army.
She said criticism of the army was not merely an attack on an institution but an act of disrespect toward the nation itself.
“Such statements should be removed from the parliamentary record,” Oli said. “The Nepali Army is an institution linked to the history of the Gorkhali tradition. Disrespecting it reflects insensitivity toward the nation.”
