Opposition leader Angdembe says searching for government on social media is unfortunate

KATHMANDU: Bhishmaraj Angdembe has said it is unfortunate that people are being forced to search for the government on social media instead of finding it directly accountable to citizens.

Speaking during Monday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, the opposition leader criticized the government for what he described as a lack of responsiveness and overreliance on populist rhetoric.

“It is not pleasant for us that we have reached a situation where the government has to be searched for on social media,” Angdembe said. “The Nepali Congress believes in democracy. Democracy is not governance from closed rooms.”

He stressed that democratic governance requires direct accountability and engagement with the public rather than limited communication through social media platforms.

Angdembe also accused the government of focusing more on populist declarations than on fulfilling its responsibilities toward citizens.

According to him, the government has failed to remain serious about its duties and maintain meaningful dialogue with the people.

The opposition leader further drew the government’s attention to the issue of landless squatters, urging authorities to resolve the problem without delay.

He said human dignity and humanitarian sensitivity were being undermined, calling on the government to act responsibly and compassionately.
